1. Multi-Factor Identity Proofing
Each RON signer is verified using at least two independent factors: (1) credential analysis of a government-issued photo ID, and (2) Knowledge-Based Authentication (KBA), in accordance with the Mortgage Industry Standards Maintenance Organization (MISMO) RON standard and applicable state law.
2. Credential Analysis
Government-issued IDs are analyzed for authenticity using forensic checks on document features (e.g., MRZ, security features, image consistency). Tampering or expired credentials result in rejection.
3. Biometric / Liveness
Where supported by jurisdiction and configured by the customer, we may perform liveness detection to confirm the signer is physically present.
4. Notary Personal Knowledge
Where state law permits, a notary may proceed based on personal knowledge of the signer, in lieu of credential analysis and KBA.
5. Failure Handling
Failed attempts terminate the session in accordance with state law and platform settings. Repeated failed attempts may temporarily lock the signer from initiating a new session.
6. Recordkeeping
Identity verification artifacts (IDs presented, KBA outcomes, audit metadata) are retained according to our Data Retention Policy.
7. Vendors
We work with established identity verification vendors. Vendor selection and configuration are subject to ongoing review for accuracy, fairness, and compliance.
